Believe it or not, MUDAVADI is a force to reckon in LUHYALAND

Sunday January 6, 2013 - Many political analysts and pundits had initially watered down the Presidential candidature of Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi describing him as “a spent cartridge that has no bullets to shoot”, but going by the recent political realignments, the UDF Presidential candidate will give headache to CORD and Jubilee bigwigs.

On Friday, the DPM Musalia Mudavadi was endorsed as Amani coalition’s Presidential flag bearer which consists of an alliance of UDF, New Ford Kenya and KANU.

It is a fact that Mudavadi's candidature may raise the prospects of a run-off if he wins enough support to deny the leading candidates the votes they would need to win in round one.

If Mudavadi manages to secure solid support from his Luhya community, then Prime Minister Raila Odinga who has been viewed a strong contender for the Luhya voting bloc, will now be forced to go for those votes against Mr Mudavadi.

Also, Mudavadi’s political wave is being felt by Jubilee coalition supremos after details emerged that UDF team is wooing Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) party leader Kiraitu Murungi for running mate position with eyes on the Meru vote.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday, Kiraitu admitted that he has been approached by the UDF team and he hadn’t made up his mind.

“I have been approached by emissaries at a personal level. I don’t have a yes or no answer for now, but I’m turning it over in my head. I will wait to have a sitting with Musalia himself before I can decide. The (Alliance Party of Kenya) party’s position remains that we are not supporting any presidential candidate.”Kiraitu said.

Going by the latest political arrangements, if Mudavadi manages to secure the Luhya bloc and the Meru vote then the next election will automatically go for a second round.

The big question is; will he manage?
