Big names floored in primaries

A key ally of The National Alliance presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta is one of several former MPs who have been floored in the party nominations. In Kirinyaga County former Ndia MP Njeru Githae lost the TNA governor ticket to newcomer Joseph Ndathi, but it was different in Nairobi County where former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu beat Jimnah Mbaru to clinch the ticket. In Nakuru County former AP commandant Kinuthia Mbugua will be TNA candidate for county governor after defeating former MP Lee Kinyajui. In Kericho county Paul Chepkwony won the URP ticket to vie for the post of governor while Charles Keter will carry the senate flag. Benjamin Langat will contest the Ainamoi constituency seat while Nelson Koech will be the flag bearer in Belgut constituency. In Marsabit County Mohamed Hussein has clinched the URP ticket for the senatorial post. Former Minister G.G Kariuki was also overwhelmingly nominated as TNA candidate for Laikipia County senate. Immediate former Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya also won the nomination and will seek to represent the constituency in the general election. In Narok County Samuel Tunai won the URP governor ticket while Stephen Ntutu won the senate ticket. Gideon Konchella is the party's Kilgoris constituency candidate while Patrick Mtutu will be the Narok west constituency candidate. In Samburu County, Stephen Lekupe got the TNA ticket for the governor while Paul Leringato was nominated as senator and nominated MP Maison Leshomo won the women rep ticket. In the parliamentary race, Raphael letimalo won in Samburu East, Partmae Lepario in Samburu Central and Alois Lentoimaga in Samburu North. Voters in Nyanza also rebelled against Prime Minister Raila Odinga and kicked out some of his key allies. The Odinga family which has dominated Nyanza politics for years was the main casualty. According to provisional results, Raila's elder brother and former finance assistant Minister Oburu Odinga, cousin Jakoyo Midiwo and ODM chief whip were floored in the primaries. In Kisumu County, Raila's sister Ruth Odinga was trounced by Jack Ranguma, a former Kenya Revenue Authority official. The parties are yet to announce the final results. The fate of ODM Secretary General Anyan'g Nyong'o by Saturday evening was still unknown following reports that he had also lost in the chaotic nominations.
