Thursday, the 24th of January 2012 - The Kenyan DAILY POST has learnt that the feisty outgoing MP for Kasarani Elizabeth Ongoro today made a u-turn on her previous promise to fight ODM for taking her out of Nairobi Senate race saying that, after some reflection, she is ready to support the party’s preferred candidate Bishop Margret Wanjiru.
Ongoro was unceremoniously removed from the Nairobi Senate race early this week. She had promised to fight ODM on the matter, even bringing up the possibility of a law suit.
ODM had tried to placate Ongoro by offering her the Ruaraka parliamentary seat even though the party had already given the nomination certificate for that seat to another aspirant. Ongoro today said that it would be improper of her to take the Ruaraka ODM ticket from another person.
Today’s developments come after Franklin Bett, the head of ODM’s elections board, yesterday said that the decision to replace Ongoro with Bishop Wanjiru for the Nairobi Senate race was informed by the desire for what he termed ‘ethnic balance’.
While accepting to back down today, Ongoro also had a dig at Bishop Wanjiru, calling her an ‘academic dwarf’.
Margret Wanjiru is now set to face TNA’s Mike Mbuvi a.k.a Sonko in the March 4thelections.
