Corridors of Power

FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
A close confidante of Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and city businessman Roy Kivusyu was overheard telling a colleague that the Embakasi West parliamentary seat is his for the taking. The businessman boasted that even before the parties in the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) zone the electoral areas, the seat is his because he has the VP’s blessings and the ethnic composition of majority Kambas, which favours him. The man was uncompromising that Wiper Democratic Movement, a key partner in Cord would not relinquish the seat whatever happens.

Still on party primaries, the shoe seems to be on the other foot for former ODM National Election Board chairman Philip Okundi who is now calling for free and fair nominations. Okundi, who launched his bid for the Homa Bay governor, fears that some forces may be out to freeze him out of the race. Ironically Okundi who was the ODM NEB chairman was the one responsible for ‘dishing out' nomination papers.

Some Kanu members were yesterday telling anyone who cared to listen that they were on their way to back to power. The officials told Corridors that their plan is to have Musalia Mudavadi nominate their vice chairman Gideon Moi as his running mate and in the process get Kanu candidates elected to various position. With a number of their members elected, Kanu will seek a post-election coalition with the party that would have won elections so that  they bargain for a few seats in government!

A well known city lawyer lost a car and millions of shillings to a woman he "dated for a week"! The man had been chasing the high flying lady for almost a year and on Christmas Day the lady, out of the blue, called up the lawyer and told him that she had finally accepted to be his girlfriend if only he met two conditions. First sign a transfer form of his Range Rover and give it to her and deposit Sh10 million in her account. The lawyer, known to be rich, accepted the conditions and the girl moved into his house on Christmas Day. A week later, the lady asked for a break-up for "personal reasons" and  the next thing she did was to catch a flight to London!
