Imposter never earned a salary – police HQ

NAIROBI, Kenya Jan 4 – Police headquarters has denied reports that the man arrested in Naivasha for impersonating a senior police officer drew a salary or conducted administrative duties.
Police Spokesman Eric Kiraithe told Capital FM News that Joshua Karanjahi Waiganjo “is a conman who has been duping people that he is a police officer.”
“It is erroneous to say he has been receiving a salary, had an office or used government police vehicles,” Kiraithe said, terming the reports as “full blown exaggerations.”
“The matter is under investigation and the suspect has already appeared in court,” Kiraithe said.
Police investigating the case were due to parade the suspect on Friday, to enable the public formally identify him.
A senior police officer in Naivasha told Capital FM News that the identification parade for the suspect would be held at the Njoro police station.
“We want people to turn up and see if they can identify him for robbery incidents,” the officer said of the suspect charged on Thursday at a Naivasha court for impersonating a senior police officer.
He also faced robbery charges he is accused of having committed jointly with others while impersonating a police officer.
The suspect was found with uniforms bearing badges of an Assistant Commissioner of Police, with reports he had been going around duping the public he was the Rift Valley Provincial deputy police chief.
The man’s family was also scheduled to address a press conference Friday.
