NAIROBI, KENYA: An aspirant for the Makongeni Ward in Nairobi was Sunday admitted to hospital after being hurt in a scuffle as he struggled to get his nomination certificate.
Peter Imwatok who is aspiring to be the County representative for the Makongeni Ward on ODM ticket was injured in a scuffle outside the residence of outgoing Nairobi mayor George Aladwa where he was waiting to be awarded his nomination certificate.
He was rushed to the Metropolitan Hospital where officials said he was being attended to on an injury inflicted by a blunt object in the stomach.
It was not immediately clear what caused the injury but officials said it was not severe and Imwatok was out of danger.
His supporters said he had gone there to have his certificate had been allegedly handed to Aladwa by the party.
“In the confusion, he was hit in the abdomen by unknown person before we rushed him to hospital,” said a supporter.
Aladwa said he was not aware how the victim was hurt. Aladwa who has a certificate to seek to be the MP for Makadara said he would seek to know those behind the incident and have them punished.
Police were stationed outside his house to control a crowd that was getting rowdy.
Police said they were investigating how the incident happened.
