JIRONGO says CORD can still have 1 candidate for Governor in Nairobi

Thursday, the 17th of January 2013 -After a morning of surprise defections and discord, former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo has come out to assure supporters of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) that the alliance’s efforts to win the Nairobi Governor’s seat are still in progress.

Jirongo assured CORD supporters that the coalition will still be able to come up with one compromise candidate for the Governorship contest.

The Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) party leader was speaking after it was confirmed early today that former Nairobi town clerk Philip Kisia had decamped from ODM and joined FPK.

Kisia’s defection means that former Mumias Sugar Company MD Evans Kidero has a clear path to take the ODM nomination certificate for the Governorship position after Bishop Margret Wanjiru was barred from contesting due to lack of academic qualifications.

From today’s developments it’s entirely possible that Kisia and Kidero will go head to head at the March 4th polls, a situation which will split the CORD vote.
