President Mwai Kibaki on Monday ordered security agencies to ensure that the March 4 polls are peaceful and lawbreakers irrespective of position held be arrested.
While meeting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) team led by chairman Isaack Hassan, Kibaki also urged political parties to avoid escalating tension that may have arisen from the nomination process and implored upon them to follow the law strictly.
Kibaki noted that cases of violence were isolated and restricted to a handful of counties and urged the local and international media to avoid exaggerating the extent of the violence.
He said that security forces had moved fast to quell the incidences of violence.
IEBC also informed Kibaki that an aggressive voter education process would begin within a week.
