A  college student who impersonated Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo through a Facebook  account collapsed at a Nairobi court on Monday after he was ordered to  deposit  a cash bail of Sh500,000 to secure his freedom.

Jackson Siro, aged 20 ,  wailed uncontrolablly when  the trial magistrate  Lucy Mbugua  told him to deposit the cash so as to secure his freedom. Mr Siro is a first year student at Kenya Technical  Teachers College, Nairobi.

He pleaded  to be forgiven  calling out the name of the Inpsector General of Police  Mr Kimaiyo. “Kimaiyo nisamehe , Kimaiyo nisamehe”, he said. ( Mr Kimaiyo forgive me.)

As the police led him to the basement cells, he collapsed  at the court corridor causing more drama. Before the policeman who was  guarding him came to his rescue, his relatives lifted him and carried  him to the cells.

Mr Siro had last week admitted two counts of impersonating Mr Kimaiyo but he could not be sentenced immediately because the prosecutor asked for more time to present the evidence.

The magistrate directed that he be produced on Tuesday in court for sentencing but he changed his plea and denied that he impersonated Mr Kimaiyo.

The court then released him on cash bail until April  14 when his trial will commence.

He is accused of falsely presenting himself to be Mr Kimaiyo through a Facebook account.

He committed the offence between December last year and January 17.

The suspect denied two other counts of posting offensive messages in the Facebook account.

The police claim that he posted the messages with the intention of causing annoyance, inconvenience and anxiety to the Inspector General of Police.
