KISII: Police launch manhunt for suspects who stabbed presiding officer

Police in Gucha are looking for two men who allegedly stabbed a presiding clerk during the Ford People nominations in Bobasi constituency two weeks ago.
The two suspects, who are at large, stabbed Isaac Obita Ong’era with a knife on the stomach after he resisted giving them a voters register.
The presiding officer succumbed to his injuries on Saturday at Kisii level five hospital.
Gucha OCPD Mr Richard Ng’etich said police have launched a man hunt for the suspects whom he said are known.
According to the deceased’s brother Mr Joseph Tamaro, a group of youth allied to Bassi Central county representatives Mr Robert Momanyi and John Magembe clashed after some of them missed their names on the register.
“Trouble started after they the youth missed their names in the voters register and were barred from taking part in the exercise,” said Mr Tamaro.
A fight ensured between the two groups, one of the supporters stabbed the clerk as he tried to ran away with the register.
Mr Ng’etich asked members of the public to assist police with any information that would lead to the arrest of the duo.
At the same time, two former ODM aspirants who lost during nominations last week have decamped to other parties.
Mr Innocent Obiri Momanyi who lost to Naftal Mogere has joined the Wiper Democratic party. Mr Obiri said that he was rigged out of the elections in a flawed process. He dared his competitor to challenge him during the actual election day.
In Bomachoge Mrs Bridgit Ombati who lost to Mary Otara in the race for women representative has joined People’s Democratic Party.
