Maalim faults Ruto and Uhuru alliance

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY STEPHEN ASTARIKO
Deputy speaker Farah Maalim has hit out at Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto saying that they could not be trusted with leading the country.
Farah said that senior alliance leaders cannot not be trusted with implementing the new constitution because they had campaigned against it.
Malim, who was addressing hundreds of youths from Garissa yesterday in his campaign for the senator seat, said that the country there will be problems if Uhuru was elected president.
"In the unlikely event that the Jubilee alliance wins the coming general election the consequence that will come with such a win will be enormous, it’s the common mwananchi who stands to suffer most since a lot of sanctions will be placed to our country,” said Maalim.
The Lagdera MP wondered how the two were determined to take power when they were still yet to clear their names at the ICC.
“This people don’t have the interests of the country at heart because if they had they would have shelved their ambitions at least for now until they clear their names at the ICC. But because their only interest is to protect their wealth and that of their colleagues, they will do everything to get power,” said Maalim.
“Our only hope as a region and the country at large lies in the implementation of new constitution, but if we vote in the wrong people then we should forget about it's implementation if our friends from the other side who opposed it are elected."
Maalim asked the youths to vote him in saying that he was better placed to tackle their issues including unemployment saying that he would make sure that 2000 youths are employed every year.
He urged the youths never to be influenced by money but instead vote for the people who had leadership qualities and who would bring meaningful change to their lives.
