MUNGATANA and DHADHO may NOT be ARRESTED for Tana killings - KIMAIYO

Friday, the 11th of January 2013 - Police Inspector General David Kimaiyo today said that the force does not have enough evidence to arrest Tana River MPs Dado Godana and his counterpart Danson Mungatana for their alleged role in the almost-daily killings in the troubled area.

Kimaiyo, who made a visit to the Tana Delta immediately after he was sworn in last December, however admitted that the spate of killings in the Tana is ‘politically instigated.’

In a statement read on his behalf by Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe, Kimaiyo said  that his charges cannot arrest the politicians said to be involved without enough evidence;

“Tana River chaos politically instigated but MPs Mungatana and Godana can’t be arrested due to lack of sufficient evidence,” read the statement.

The events in the Tana yesterday earned a rare critique from the UN country rep who termed them “inhumane acts of violence".

The UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Nairobi Modibo Toure also called on Kenyans to embrace peace as they head towards elections;

“In the run up to the March 2013 elections, the United Nations would like to urge Kenyans to exercise their democratic rights in a peaceful manner with respect for the rights and dignity of all concerned”
