Party lists add to poll confusion

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday night released provisional lists of nominees by different parties.
However the lists seemed incomplete as some key parties were missing from the data put up on the IEBC website.
Among the parties whose lists were missing are the United Republican Party led by Jubilee presidential running mate William Ruto and the United Democratic Forum (UDF) party led by deputy prime minister Musalia Mudavadi.
List of candidates nominated on Water minister Charity Ngilu’s Narc and presidential candidate Martha Karua’s Narc-Kenya were also missing.
The IEBC lists confirmed Ms Mary Wambui as the TNA parliamentary candidate for Othaya constituency and Transport minister Amos Kimunya was nominated to defend his Kipipiri seat.
The minister’s rivals for the Kipipiri TNA ticket have filed a dispute with the IEBC’s Disputes Resolution Committee, which begins its sittings on Thursday at the Milimani Law Courts.
The rivals led by Mr Samuel Gichigi, who claims to have won the nominations, and a former MP Mwangi Githiomi are reported to be headed to the courts Thursday morning to formally contest the decision by the TNA.

Meanwhile, the ODM provisional list released confirms Mr Jackson Ranguma as the party’s candidate for the governor’s seat in Kisumu while Health minister Prof Anyang’ Nyongo runs for the senator.
In Homa Bay which was also among the hotly disputed nominations, Mr Cyprian Awiti, was given the governor’s ticket while Immigration minister Otieno Kajwang, goes for the senate.
The TNA list also confirms that Githunguri MP Njoroge Baiya, who was in the protesting group that accompanied Ms Wambui to the IEBC headquarters, is nominated to defend his seat.

Controversial businessman Kamlesh Pattni of the Goldenberg scandal will make yet another bid to become Westlands MP on a Kenda ticket.
Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga will contest the Nairobi senator’s seat on a Mkenya Solidarity ticket against Bishop Margaret Wanjiru of ODM and Mike Sonko of TNA.

In Mombasa, Hassan Joho, the outgoing Kisauni MP, is the ODM nominee for Mombasa governor’s seat, with former Nation Media Group corporate affairs staffer Hazel Katana as his deputy. Mr Ramadhan Kajembe goes for Senate.
In Nyamira county, Mr John Nyagarama will vie for the governor’s seat while former Law Society of Kenya boss Okong’o Omogeni runs for senator.
Prof Oyugi Akongo was handed the governor’s ticket Migori County, while Mrs Anne Anyanga, who was vying for the same seat is the deputy governor and Dr Wildred Machage, has the senate ticket.
ODM did not nominate candidates for governor, senate and women representatives in its Cord alliance Wiper Democratic Movement partner strongholds of Machakos and Kitui.
