Raila has never earned salary as PM, claims Midiwo

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY JUSTUS OCHIENG
GOVERNMENT Chief Whip Jakoyo Midiwo yesterday claimed Prime Minister Raila Odinga has never earned his salary since assuming office. Raila assumed office in March 2008 at the beginning of the coalition government.
The coalition government was formed after the signing of the National accord between President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga on February 28, 2008.
Speaking at a local Fm radio station, Midiwo said the Prime Minister has not received his salary since March 2008 when he assumed office. “The Prime Minister has not been able to receive his salary because it does not exist,” said Midiwo. The Gem MP blamed some officials at the treasury he did not name for derailing the allocation of the premiers salary.
“It is unfortunate that nobody has cared over the premier’s salary yet he has held the position since the beginning of the coalition Government,” he said. He pointed out that there is need for the Prime Minister to be paid.
