SOME aspirants in Homa Bay County have vowed to boycott an ODM party nominations meeting convened by branch chairman Otieno Kajwang.
The aspirants have asked the minister for Immigration and egistration of Persons, who is vying for the Homa Bay senator’s seat, to relinquish the post.
“We are not going to attend the meeting. He is calling the meeting as who and all officials who are contesting seats were supposed to resign be December 30?” said his key rival Hillary Alila.
“Kajwang is taking unnecessary advantage and should quit his position. We want a neutral person to call a meeting. For the nominations to be free and fair, Kajwang and other officials contesting seats must resign so that the playing ground is level,” said Alila.
His sentiments were echoed by Homa Bay governor's seat aspirant, Phillip Okundi, who also asked Kajwang to quit his party position.“All aspirants should sit together and appoint, and at the same time agree on the number of polling stations, no individual aspirant can do that,” he said.
Okundi wondered why the aspirant had called for the meeting in Kisumu County yet Homa bay County has several venues that can hold such gatherings.
Gwassi Parliamentary aspirant Tobias Odundo also claimed there were plans to rig the nominations. But addressing a news conference at Sunset hotel, in Kisumu, Kajwang said he will resign after the meeting.
“The meeting is very crucial and that is why I want to resign after chairing it,” said the Mbita MP. He said all aspirants are expected to attend the meeting that is set to discuss the nomination process. “We want to discuss all issues pertaining to the nominations. We want to have a free and fair nomination,” he said.
