ACCRA
Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka on Monday joined several Heads of State and Government to witness the inauguration of Ghana’s newly elected President John Dramani Mahama.
The ceremony held at the country’s Independence Square at Accra, was attended by former Ghanaian presidents John Jerry Rawlings and John Kufuor. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, and South Africa’s Jacob Zuma among other dignitaries.
President Mahama first became the Head of State last year following the death of President John Evans Atta Mills. Mr Mahama was the Vice-President then.
The President and his running mate Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur were sworn in by the Chief Justice, Mrs Georgina Theodora Woo, who was recently in Kenya as part of the Judges Vetting Board.
Earlier that evening, Mr Musyoka and his delegation, including Trade Minister Moses Wetang’ula held talks with the President at his residence.
Mr Musyoka briefed the Ghanaian leader on the preparations for the March 4 General Elections and conveyed to him a congratulatory message from President Kibaki.
