UHURU and RUTO government will deeply HURT KENYANS

Nicholas Cheruiyot

That we live in a rapidly globalized world cannot be denied. History tells us that even pre-colonial rulers kept a healthy spirit of good neighborliness, albeit nascent.

It thus calls for concern when Jubilee Coalition torch bearer Uhuru Kenyatta continues to direct barbs at Western countries.

Foreign relations is a key issue in any election and ours cannot afford be an exception. Jubilee is a key runner in our next polls and their view on the west must be well articulated.

Addressing TNA-URP delegates, Uhuru took swipe at the West saying he only want to be Kenya’s president. He expressed confidence of support from regional nations and other friends across the globe.

When he signed a deal with UDF's Musalia Mudavadi, Uhuru was himself convinced that his Presidency will face an international backlash that will hurt our floundering economy.

Talk of tea, coffee, pyrethrum and flowers, our economic backbone, being snubbed by western democracies. Most Kenyans especially those form central and rift valley, who are dependent on this cash crops will feel the pinch. Moreover these are the regions seen to be strongholds of the Jubilee alliance.

Lets think of those youths who will mire in joblessness or breadwinners who will be thrown out of work because the Netherlands or Britain no longer accepts our flowers or coffee.

The West has reservations of working with the duo whose case at The Hague court is at an advanced stage. I wonder whether Uhuru and his running William Ruto have ever extended an olive branch to these nations.

I have only seen them being belligerent and telling them off. Their foot soldier constantly seen in the media telling the west on how Kenya is a sovereign state and that they should keep off.

This will mean further isolation of Kenya from the international arena. Let it never be said that it was during Uhuru's tenure that Kenya went the inglorious Zimbabwe way!
