The Jubilee Coalition flag-bearer on Sunday urged churches to preach peace ahead of the March 4 General Election.
Mr Uhuru Kenyatta said the Church was among the best placed institutions to champion the unity of all Kenyans.
The Deputy Prime Minister said religion-based organisations needed to strengthen their role of promoting peace among Kenyans.
Speaking at the Kaaga Methodist Church in Imenti North during the induction service for the Rev Catherine Mutua, who is the first woman bishop of the Methodist Church of Kenya and Kaaga synod, Mr Kenyatta said the clergy needed to pray for Kenya as the country prepared for the elections.
“We all remember the chaos that our country was plunged in after the disputed elections in 2007 and the political turmoil that we went through. We humbly ask the Church to pray for the country to avoid going back to the dark days,” Mr Kenyatta said.
Elsewhere, his running mate William Ruto said Jubilee would prioritise Coast issues and ensure that the region was involved in national development if they won.
Mr Ruto was addressing a public rally at Jomo Kenyatta Primary School in Msambweni over the weekend.
